Customers may load additional software onto their virtual hosting and dedicated hosting servers. However, customer loaded software is not covered under the Vittox managed services. For all customers you may upgrade or downgrade your plan easily communicating with our Support are using the Support Ticket System asking for an Upgrade of your control panel. You can also change (extend) the length of term for your subscription period. Annual prepayments receive a 10% discount.

When you upgrade, we will give you a credit of the remaining time and charge you for the next bill reagding your choosed plan. The same logic applies when you change the length of term. The system always gives you a refund for the amount of unused service and charges you for the full billing cycle of the new length of term, and of course resets your billing cycle.

Yes, you may use either a commercial certificate or a self signed SSL certificate in conjunction with your VPS service. Please note that you must install the "SSL for Apache" application in your VPS in order to use SSL. Please note that each certificate in your VPS requires its own IP address. If you need more than one SSL certificate, you will need to purchase an additional IP for each additional certificate.

Commercial Certificate -- Vittox offers GlobalSign and Alpha certificates for a reasonable fee, including installation. If you already own a certificate, you may install it yourself, or we will install it for you for a fee. You may purchase the certificate at our facilities. NOTE: We can procure Verisign certificates on a request basis. After you purchase the certificate you will receive an email from us with a questionnaire that must be completed in order to procure the certificate.

Self Signed Certificate -- Using your Control Panel, you may install a self signed certificate at no extra charge. Please note that self signed certificates throw up a warning message to the site visitor because they are not recognized as being certified by the browsers.

SSL Certificates are a very effective way to secure data being transferred between your site and your site visitors. Many companies now sell SSL certificates, some of them for very low prices. There are technical differences in the products offered and differences in the guarantee offered by provider of the SSL certificates. However, the main difference between certificates is brand awareness. Certificate vendors that sell SSL certificates for what seems to be a higher price spend more time authenticating the identity of the person buying the cert, i.e. "certifying" the buyer. They in effect will ensure that the person buying the certificate is really the owner of the domain and is entitled to have a certificate for the domain. Consequently, the savvy web user places more trust in the established "brands" of certificate.

We sell two brands of certificates (GlobalSign and Alpha), which we believe covers most of the needs of our customers. GlobalSign is a major, publicly held corporation that sells SSL certificates. They are respected throughout the world and have an excellent product offering. Please note that when you buy a certificate thorough Vittox, installation is included at no extra cost. You can certainly install your own certificate, but if you want to have us install a customer provided certificate, there is a service fee. We also notify our customers when their certificate is due to expire, and assist them as needed in renewing their certificate.

A domain "transfer" is a misused term in the hosting industry. It really means transferring the administration of the domain registry information from one registrar to another. Renewals of a domain are also administered through the Registrar.

Transfer not required - Vittox Hosting does not require that you transfer your domain to our registrar. If you retain the current registrar all you need to do is update the name servers information to point to Vittox name servers (or if you do not want to use our name servers update the DNS record in the name servers you use to point to the IP address that we assign to your VPS).

IF you want to transfer - Some customers prefer to transfer their domain to the Vittox registrar, to keep their hosting and domain administration both with the same provider. We use iDotz.net They are competitive and manage the widest-global choice for domain extentions. If you transfer your domain we can assist you with administering the domain and will notify you and bill you for renewals. There is NO fee (free of charge) to transfer the domain to Vittox registrar, but you must pay to get an additional year added to the length of the ownership of your domain as a process of the transfer. The procedure for transferring a domain is as follows:

TRANSFER PROCEDURE - transferring a domain TO Vittox registrar (if you already paid for the transfer in your initial order for Vittox Hosting, please skip steps 1, 4 and 5.

1. Obtain the EPP code - this is a code that is available from your current Registrar. You can usually obtain it when you log in to the registry records, or you may have to obtain it from whoever sold you the domain. This code is a safeguard to ensure that the domain is not stolen from the rightful owner. Our system will require that you enter this code when you initiate the transfer order.

2. Unlock the domain - a second safeguard is the domain lock. You must unlock this domain at the current registrar.

The physical access to your machine is tightly controlled. A 24 hour guard is posted at the entrance to the data center. Only authorized personnel are allowed to enter the building. To gain entrance to the server room, three separate biometric recognition tests, including a retina scan, must be passed. All of our servers and network equipment are in locked cages inside the data center.

Electronic access to the server itself is controlled through the security scheme of the operating system and application software components. You also have access to iptables in our general purpose VPS plans or a built in firewall application in our Plesk VPS plans. All servers reside behind our carrier grade firewall. Vittox also offers security options including SSL, custom firewall configuration, and Virtual Private Networks (VPN). Customer personnel have the ability to start/restart the server as well as processes that are running. Please note that customers are responsible for who has remote access to their server.

Vittox Tech Support Access -- Our tech support representatives have complete access to your server. This is an absolute necessity to providing effective support. All Vittox Employees undergo a rigorous employment review which includes extensive background checking. Please do not implement security measures that will prevent our technicians from accessing your service. These inevitably cause problems when we need to help you or restart your service.

Confidentiality Policy -- Vittox makes its best faith effort to protect the confidentiality of your server. Please do not ask Vittox personnel to provide passwords over insecure channels or to people that are not listed as an account contact.

Customer Reboots -- If you have a dedicated server, or you have a VPS with the optional monitoring service, you are required to notify the Tech Support Team in the event that you need to reboot your server. Informing them prior to performing a start/restart on your machine ensures that a false alarm is not triggered in our monitoring system. If you fail to notify our Tech Support department, and our support reps respond to the alarm that your server is down, you may be liable for service fees for the time expended trying to resolve the false alarm.

Maintaining security requires teamwork between the provider and the customer. We use high-standard technology and a number of measures to protect our network and the services we offer from attack and abuse. But ultimately, the security of your data is your reponsibility. This is because you are in control of the passwords and access security mechanisms of the database and application servers.

Passwords should be changed by you in the Users and Groups areas on the System tab of the Control Panel. You should also ensure that any applications that you install in your service do not have vulnerabilities.

Vittox does have network security measures, including a firewall and other capabilities that are not publically disclosed. However, Vittox is not responsible for controlling and managing the access of your data, nor is Vittox responsible for software that you install.

We do not provide service for pornographic sites, gambling sites, or sites deemed to be highly objectionable.

We do not actively "police" our customer's sites, but will deactivate a site if we find that the content is illegal or highly objectionable.

We also have a strict policy against using our service to distribute mass e-mails that are considered to be SPAM.
